my name is bailey smith and i'm a calligrapher, watercolor artist, and stationer based in
charlotte, north carolina.
i'm a wife, mother, and former naval officer turned artist.
i was born and raised in ewa beach, hawaii, went to college in new york, was stationed all over the country, and now call the south home.
i've always considered myself the artistic type but really fell in love with stationery and hand-lettering when planning my own wedding back in 2012 (whilst deployed to the arabian gulf aboard the uss bulkeley). pouring over whatever outdated edition of martha stewart weddings i was sent in my most recent care package, i found myself completely obsessed with anything and everything relating to wedding stationery.
So i taught myself the art of calligraphy (because i've always been the 'i can do that, too' type) and eventually branched into watercolor illustration and design. in 2017, with my naval service commitment coming to a close, i had a decision to either transition into corporate america or take the plunge and start my own business.
i chose the latter.
today, i operate a full-service stationery design company from the comfort and chaos of my home studio, all of my tools within arms reach of my precocious baby girl.
my design aesthetic draws inspiration from all different sources, but can most aptly be described as a sort of good-humored elegance. i love a good pun, french country interiors, old books, the ballet, dolly parton (no, like, i really do love her and feel like she and i would really hit it off), unbridled public dancing, dogwood trees, christmas village sets, and slouchy sweaters.
i truly believe that everything is more fun painted in watercolor.
